| 内容記述 | Japanese potential forms can be created by adding the suffix-(ar) eru or the phrase kotogadekiru. However, some intransitive verbs with this suffix or phrase produce ill-forms. In this study, I will demonstrate that intransitive verbs can be classified into four types and the analysis of their characteristics in the following terms; (1) agentivity, (2) semantic role and (3) semantic nature. The result is related to the concept of volitionality. The potential of intransitive verbs, which semantically indicate volitionality, can be achieved by adding-(ar) eru and kotogadekiru. The intransitive verbs, which do not indicate volitionality, have potential forms since they already implicate the meaning of potentials. | |||||
